Since everyone’s staying home, let’s pretend we’re off on an International trip. My books are set in places I’ve visited, and I’m sharing some of my photos this month.
Identify the location of the picture below. Remember to register your answer by clicking “Leave a comment” at the top of this page and then write your reply (I’ll approve comments at the end of each day and reveal the locale in the following blog).
Correct answer receives a point. If you’re not certain, go ahead and guess! I’ll be posting a different photo, along with a hint, every day this month. Whoever has the most points on April 30th will receive a prize (you’re not winning the lotto, dear people, but I will mail you a small gift which will include a modest Amazon card). Hint: I took this with a telephoto lens from the pinnacle of the smallest country on earth. Name the location, not the fountain (I don’t even know what it’s called).

Some people don’t realize that Vatican City is actually the smallest country which is surrounded by Rome. I don’t remember seeing this fountain when we visited but it’s beautiful.

Congratulations, you are correct! I had to climb to the top of St. Peters to look down on this fountain, Martha. It’s in an adjacent, walled garden. I don’t believe it was open to the public, but it’s very large. It was so hot that day, I wished I could jump in. It’s bigger than a large swimming pool. Thanks so much for playing!

Correct, Amy. I climbed to the top of St. Peters. You are going up a narrow stairway between the outer and inner dome, with slanted walls. I felt like I had vertigo at times and just had to keep my head down and look at the steps. At the very end, there is no railing, just a tight spiral and you cling to a rope hanging down the middle! Difficult, but worth the journey. That fountain was below in an adjacent walled, private garden in the Vatican.

This looks like The Fountain of the Eagle at the Vatican. The Vatican has been called the smallest country in the world.

Yes, it’s the Vatican, Sharon. They claim that it is the smallest country in the world. If it’s the Fountain of the Eagle, you know more than me! It was a super hot day and the climb to the top of St. Peters was exhausting. That fountain looked really inviting from up there! Thanks for playing.
